The Mineral Concession (Amendment) Rules, 2026 amend the Mineral Concession Rules, 1960 by providing an appropriate procedure for incorporating other minerals, including minor minerals, in existing mining leases with the prior permission of State Governments.
Mineral Concession (Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified under the authority of the Ministry of Coal on 27 February 2026 through G.S.R. 150(E), have introduced many amendments to the Mineral Concession Rules, 1960. The main purpose behind this amendment is to facilitate the inclusion of extra minerals, whether major or minor, in a mining lease already granted under the provisions of this Act. Under the amended rule 27, the lease holder of a mining lease shall be entitled to make an application to the concerned State Government for including new mineral resources found in that particular mine. The said State Government will be expected to process this duly filled application in time. This amendment would help achieve efficient use of mineral resources as well as better business environment in the mineral sector.
